Epilepsy Is Dancing.

I was reading about genes early. Some are dominant and some are recessive. I can remember being in school and learning this. You were always taught it about eye colour. Brown is dominant and blue is recessive. Everyone would spend ten minutes secretly trying to work out whether they were adopted or not. I wonder if anyone has actually ever found out that they were. Sitting in biology class, it hits you, you're adopted. I wonder what they did.

I couldn't remember what colour my mother's eyes are. I could remember my fathers though. This made me feel bad. But maybe it was more of an assumption than remembering. He has very dark hair. It might be black. I am not sure. This is why I assumed he had brown eyes. I panicked when I couldn't remember my mothers. What would happen if she ever read my mind and could tell? This is obviously a reasonable thought. For a moment I thought she had brown eyes. I had to check.

Mum. What colour eyes do you have?

Sometimes blue, sometimes grey. It changes. Why?

I'm reading about genetics. I thought I was adopted for a while. Just checking.

She called me after this. I asked her if I was adopted. She said no and told me to stop being silly. I laughed and said I knew that really. I was just making sure. I asked why I had blue eyes when my father had brown, and brown is dominant and blue is recessive. I shouldn't have blue eyes? I then asked her if my father was my actual father. She said yes. I asked her if she was sure. She said yes. So I said 'Oh, can't you say no?'. Then she laughed. So I laughed as well because I didn't know what else to do.

Now I am reading about the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). My favourite words are Vasodilation and Vasoconstriction. The word 'inhibition' is used a lot. I did not understand this at first. I didn't think that this was an appropriate word. But I just looked it up in the dictionary. And it is okay. It's used correctly. But I think they should use the word 'restrict' or 'restriction' instead. Restriction of the tear gland. Restriction of salivation. Restricts stomach contractions and digestive secretion. Restricts intestinal peristalsis. Restricts erection.

I also like the word Hypothalamus.

I look too much like my parents to even question that I was adopted. Your mom sounds great. I definitely know the feeling of wishing there was more mystery to yourself - something that you wouldn't even know yourself, like being adopted.
